ABOUT BRIAN M. LATUGA, ESQ.
Brian M. Latuga, a partner with the firm of Wolcott Rivers Gates, practices Criminal Defense & Civil Litigation in state and federal courts. He is a skilled trial attorney that is well-versed in a variety of fields. Mr. Latuga zealously fights to maintain your liberty and protect your rights when you are facing serious felony, DUI, or white collar criminal charges and will provide experienced and knowledgeable representation in civil litigation matters, especially as they overlap criminal and traffic issues.
Former Police Officer:
Brian began serving as a Police Officer in 2005 and had assignments with the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Third Police Precinct, the Community Oriented Policing Unit and the Traffic Safety Unit. During his law enforcement career Brian made thousands of criminal arrests, conducted hundreds of DUI investigations and issued thousands of summonses. Brian received many community awards for his enforcement efforts. He is certified and proficient in RADAR, LIDAR, Commercial Motor Vehicle Weighing, the Alco-Sensor FST (the Preliminary Breath Test) and Advanced Crash Investigations. He was a licensed and active operator of the current DUI breath alcohol instrument for over six years - the “Intoximeter EC/IR-II.” Brian has a thorough working knowledge of police training, certifications, policies and procedures, interview and interrogation techniques, and the intricacies of criminal law. As a Police Officer he testified in court for well-over a thousand cases. He is willing and ready to passionately attack the accusations facing you using his extensive experience to your advantage. He was a respected Police Officer in the community and courts, and that reputation follows him into his legal career.
Former Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney:
Brian is a former Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach. He tried hundreds of traffic, misdemeanor and felony cases. In both judge and jury trials Brian has litigated Involuntary and Voluntary Manslaughter, Larceny and Theft offenses, Drug Distribution and Possession, Burglary, Malicious and Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Rape, Robbery, DUI-Manslaughter, DUI-Maiming and Murder.
Education:
Brian attended Regent University School of Law and graduated 2nd in his class with Summa Cum Laude honors. Mr. Latuga excelled in law school while also working full-time at the Police Department. Such an accomplishment is direct evidence of his drive and determination. Before his policing career he earned his Bachelors in Chemistry from James Madison University. He also served as a Deputy Chief of the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad and maintained an EMT-Intermediate Certification (Medic). Brian is active in his community and in his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, backpacking trips, diving, as he is a certified PADI Divemaster and NSS-CDS Cave Diver.
